FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Media Cards
Q. | What types of SD (Secure Digital) media cards are there? | |
A. | There are in fact
three different types of SD media now available,
it's very important that you double check which
types of SD media your device supports before
purchase. SDSC (Secure Digital Standard Capacity) or SD for short - this is the original version of the secure digital media card and comes in storage sizes of up to 2GB. SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) - this is now the mainstream media card and improves on the standard SD card in that they offer storage sizes of up to 32GB (they come preformatted with the FAT32 file system). There are compatibility issues with standard SD because SDHC uses a different Card-Specific Data (CSD) register. SDXC (Secure Digital eXtended Capacity) - this is the latest standard of SD media card and improves on the SDHC card in that they now offer storage sizes of up to 2TB. (they come pre-formatted with Microsoft's proprietary and patented exFAT file system). Using the exFAT format creates yet another compatibility issue with previous SD versions! As you can see, it is important to make sure your device supports the correct version of SD, if you purchase the wrong standard its not going to work! |
