The Glitch - A Friend in Computing

The Glitch was conceived during 2004, and started out simply as a site to assist people with computer problems. Today the site has grown considerably and has become a one-stop shop for many aspects of modern computing and communication

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Glitch Website Issues

Q. What is this 'Privacy Policy' and Cookie warning displayed at the top of your Home Page all about?

New Item

A. On the 26 May 2012, it becomes UK law that all websites make it clear if they are using cookies, and what information is being used.

Many of my third-party advertiser's use Cookies, and this is only relevant if you click on their link and visit their sites (they will have their own privacy policy and Cookie usage statements).

Please remember switching off Cookies will totally break some websites and stop many others from operating correctly (The Glitch for one); although it's important to know about Cookies, they are a necessary tool for a large number of websites.

Sadly, due to 'Cookie Abuse' by a small number of websites, everyone has to suffer, hence the need for legislation and the warnings that every website now has to display  :O(

Q. What are the 'Tweet' graphics about?

New Item

A. The Glitch now has a Twitter account, I normally update it when I post a new news article, but I sometimes post a comment when there is other significant information to convey.

Twitter ShareTwitter Link

The first Twitter graphic (light-blue background) allows you to share the Twitter article with other people. The second Twitter graphic (white background) allows you to jump to the relevant Twitter comment.

Q. What is the "Fully Validated Webpage (HTML 4.01 & CSS 2.1)" graphic at the bottom right-hand side of your web pages all about?

A. A group called the 'World Wide Web Consortium' (W3C) have defined a set of standards to ensure compatibility and interoperability of web based products.

Fully Validated Webpage (HTML 4.01 & CSS 2.1)

The graphic above indicates that my web pages adhere to these defined standards, which ensures The Glitch's site is error free and should always looks the same no matter which browser you use.

Q. When I access your site none of your menus are displayed?

A. The most likely cause is that your browser either does not support 'JavaScript' or that 'JavaScript' is disabled. Use either 'Internet Explorer' or 'Firefox' browsers to guarantee full compatibility.

Q. What are the odd 64-Bit Compatible Not 64-Bit Compatible icons near the bottom of some of your software products ?

A. Very simply these icons try to give a quick visual indication as to whether the software products listed are 64-bit compatible or not; this hopefully prevents you from wasting time downloading software that is currently known to have compatibility issues with 64-bit environments.

64-Bit Compatible = 64-Bit Compatible      Not 64-Bit Compatible = Not 64-Bit Compatible

Q. Why should I click any of your product links, what's in it for me ?

A. The short answer is, you don't have to, and I certainly can't make you; when you visit 'The Glitch', I hope you will see a site that is not only clear and well laid out, but also a site that links you to relevant information and provides useful price comparisons, a site that generally helps you make an informed purchase...and, where possible, supports the products it lists!

All I ask in return is that when you make a purchase, you place your order using the links that I provide,  Ultimately I leave it to your conscious, if you are happy to take the results of my many hours of hard work, and not give me the credit I deserve then sa-la-vie.

The small amount of revenue generated from this site helps sustains The Glitch, paying for hosting, ecommerce and other costs.

I'm certainly not going to be retiring on the spoils generated by The Glitch any time soon...lol...I wish!

Please support The Glitch if you can...thank you !

Q. When I try to add an item to your 'Basket' I get a warning that the "Basket2Go" software requires me to allow cookies, what's this all about ?

A. Internet Explorer (IE) may require my 'Basket2go' software to be allowed permission to store session information, this is sometimes needed to allow items to be added to the basket and thus use the secure payment system. This can be done very easily and does not compromise your system:

Open Internet Explorer and click on the 'Tools' menu.
Now select the 'Internet Options' menu item (near the bottom).
Select the 'Privacy' Tab.
Now click the 'Sites' button.
type the following into the 'website address' box:
basket2go.net
Now click the 'Allow' button
Finally click 'OK' and then 'OK' again to finish.

Close your Internet Explorer and reopen it again, the basket software should now work correctly.

(For Reference Only: As of 2009 'The Glitch' no longer uses 'Basket2go')

Q. What are the funny (Post on StumbleuponPost on KaboodleDigg ThisPost on FacebookPost on RedditPost on Del.icio.us) icons at the bottom of some of your products/pages ?

A. When you see these icons on a page or below a product it means you have the opportunity to bookmark the item using one of a number of social networking sites. This allows you to quickly get back to areas of interest within The Glitch or even share these pages with your friends.

Q. Every time I try to access any of your Dell links I get a blank page with 'Done' at the bottom ?

A. This can be caused by having an old version of the Internet Explorer addon 'IEPro' installed. To resolve this issue you can download the latest version via my 'Browser Addons' section within my software page.

Q. When I click any of your links within your Hardware section, nothing happens ?

A. This issue is normally caused by 'Spybot Search & Destroy' and its overzealous blocking of websites. My advice is to simply remove Spybot altogether and use a different anti-spyware application, one that does not block legitimate sites.
