BENCHMARKING & TESTING TOOLS
Benchmarking and Testing is a good way to uncover deficiencies in your system. Some applications allow you to compare your results with those taken from similar computer setups, thus helping you pin-point trouble spots.
INFORMATION
WARNING: Repeated Benchmarking 'Stress Tests' can place a strain on your system components. Thus over use of benchmarking programs is not recommended
MEMORY TESTING |

Memtest86+ Memtest86 is a thorough, stand alone memory test for x86 architecture computers. BIOS based memory tests are a quick, cursory check and often miss many of the failures that are detected by Memtest86. Memtest86 was developed by Chris Brady with a first release in 1994. However, the testing algorithms used have been under development since 1981 and have been previously implemented on Dec PDP-11, VAX-11/780 and Cray XMP architectures. Development and distribution of Memtest86 is now funded and supported by BradyTech Inc. Memtest86 is released under the terms of the Gnu Public License (GPL). |

Microsoft The Windows Memory Diagnostic tests the Random Access Memory (RAM) on your computer for errors. The diagnostic includes a comprehensive set of memory tests. If you are experiencing problems while running Windows, you can use the diagnostic to determine whether the problems are caused by failing hardware, such as RAM or the memory system of your motherboard. Windows Memory Diagnostic is designed to be easy and fast. On most configurations, you can download the diagnostic, read the documentation, run the test and complete the first test pass in less than 30 minutes. |

Intel
The Intel® Processor Identification Utility was developed
by Intel Corporation to identify the processor inside a
system, assuring the processor contains intended
technologies and is operating at the tested and rated
frequency intended by Intel Corporation.

CPU Burn-in CPU Burn-in v1.01 by Michal Mienik is the ultimate stability testing tool for overclockers. The program heats up any x86 CPU to the maximum possible operating temperature that is achievable by using ordinary software. This allows the user to adjust the CPU speed up to the practical maximum while still being sure that stability is achieved even under the most stressful conditions. The program continuously monitors for erroneous calculations and errors ensuring the CPU does not generate errors during calculations performed under overclocking conditions. CPU Burn-in constantly cycles FPU intensive functions for a user specified period of time. The resultant calculations are constantly checked for data integrity. If the program detects erroneous data the user is immediately informed. |

FRAPS
Fraps is a universal Windows application that can be used
with all games using DirectX or OpenGL technology. In its
current form Fraps performs many tasks and can best be
described as: Benchmarking Software - See how many Frames Per
Second (FPS) you are getting in a corner of your screen.
Save the statistics out to disk
and use them for your own reviews and applications.
Screen Capture Software - Take a
screenshot with the press of a key! There's no need to
paste into a paint program every time you want to capture
the screen. Your screen captures are also automatically
named and timestamped. Realtime Video Capture Software - Have you ever
wanted to record video while playing your favourite game? Throw away the VCR,
forget about using a DV cam, game recording has never
been this easy! Fraps can capture audio and video up to
1152x864 and 100 frames per second!

SiSoftware SiSoftware Sandra is a Windows system analyser that includes benchmarking, testing, and listing modules. It tries to go beyond other utilities to show you more of what is really going on under the hood, so you draw comparisons at both a high- and low-level in a single product. You can get information about the CPU, chipset, video adapter, ports, printers, sound card, memory, network, Windows internals, AGP, ODBC Connections, USB2, and FireWire. You can save, print, fax, e-mail, post, upload, or insert into ADO/ODBC databases reports in text, HTML, XML, SMS/DMI, or RPT format. All benchmarks are optimized for both SMP and SMT (Hyper-Threading), up to 32/64 CPUs depending on the platform. Some modules are not available in the free 'Lite' version.
